It might be fun for vistors coming in once a year, but as far as Atlanta residents go,you have to understand the demographics. We're not like New Orleans where people embrace the downtown environment. The footprint of "Atlanta" is enormous and extends 40 miles north. The fans that will spend the money to come to the games are "Atlanta" residents but don't live in the city limits. The same thought goes for Turner Field...it's in a shite location that no one wants to go. We love Atlanta, but we love the suburbs of Atlanta where we don't have to worry about getting mugged, shot, raped or murdered.

This sounds exactly like every single major city in the country...

I guess the question then is would you rather ensure 100% full crowds for the falcons or attract more big events like the final 4 etc?

Agreed. If they could find some space up in Buckhead, Doraville, or Sandy Springs to build a sports arena, it would be a hell of a lot easier to fill it up.

I fricking hate the burbs and I have never once been in fear for my safety while living about as far inside the perimeter as one can get. Atlanta is no different than most major cities. Just be smart about where you go, when you go, and how you get there and you don't have that much to worry about.

It amazes me how anybody in the world would love SUBURBS????

Atlanta is a nightmare whose downtown should strive to be more like New Orleans.

STL have a higher crime rate and people still go into the city limits of STL for Cardinals, RAMS, and Blues games. ATL sport fans suck. And STL city limits are only about 320,000 but the metro area is almost 3 mil. That tells you people would rather live in the suburbs of STL than the city.

On a side note, 2 marines got robbed last summer by Busch Stadium when they were in town for a Cards game, believe it was military weekend. Still don't stop people from packing Busch Stadium.

Seriously? I live practically downtown and have never once felt unsafe. More crime happens in DeKalb county than in downtown Atlanta. Hell, Georgia States campus is safer than Georgia Tech's.

Suburbanites are walking breathing stereotypes.
