Message boards can have some good info, but trust your training and common sense to filter out the bad information. Most everything you read online or in books is full of inflated egos, fish stories, and misconceptions. First thing I'd find someone who is knowledgeable and is willing to take the time to guide you through the dives and make you comfortable. Not a lot of spearos are patient or willing enough to take that time out of their dives to do that.
