It doesn't exactly follow it. There are minor changes which made me enjoy more than the original series. If you watch it, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Yeah I posted on reddit a few months ago saying that there's no way that Sasuke survives till the end of the series and I got down voted into oblivion lol
