while it's true booty obviously came in as a star, it's not true that's the reason he started. i remember saban talking about jamarcus russell in the battle against randall, and saying it was very similar to the rohan/booty situation. that in both cases one guy was clearly more talented, but could not be win the starting position until the "got it." that both of them took over the starting role when they understood that starting QB wasn't just about games, it was preparation and how you carried yourself in practice. that dogging it in practice wasn't an option for the QB because w/o max effort from him the offense couldn't improve. when the switch clicked, they were on their way.
