As for Brees making that wide receiving group what they are, I disagree. They are a talented group independent of who is throwing them the ball. Just like Denver/Cleveland's receiving corps would be hot garbage no matter who was throwing to them, the same could be said for the Saints having a great receiving corps no matter who is throwing to them. The same could be said for New England to a degree, but that's more dependent on their system and other factors, but that's for another discussion.
Saints fans seem to overvalue Brees (who is a damn good quarterback) and undervalue the fact that they have the best offensive mind in the NFL at Head Coach right now.
I am sure you are right, that fans tend to overvalue one of the top three QBs in the game today.
You really don't think that Brees has something to do with how they perform on a game-by-game basis. They make some nice catches, but Brees puts it exactly where it needs to be 90 percent of the time. You think that somehow the Broncos receivers wouldn't be better than they are now if they had Brees placing the ball on the money all the time instead of having to try and make above-average catches regularly?

Don't get me wrong, I believe Brees is a great quarterback, but it's not like he was tearing it up out in San Diego. Hell he was so disappointing for them that they wound up with the number one pick in the 2004 draft and picked another quarterback. People seem to forget that Brees was let go in favor of an unproven quarterback because he was seen as a disappointment and really, he was.
He didn't put up great numbers until he got to New Orleans under Sean Payton. Coincidence? I think not. This is the guy who managed to get 3,300 passing yards out of Quincy fricking Carter on a bad Dallas team. The man is to NFL quarterbacks what Spurrier was to college quarterbacks in the 90's and what Tedford was for college quarterbacks for a good 15 or so years.
Let's also not pretend that Brees is playing with hot garbage surrounding him either. From a raw athletic standpoint and overall skill standpoint, Brees has the best top to bottom offensive supporting cast in the NFL.
So yeah he's a great quarterback independent of his supporting cast, but he's not some godlike quarterback like some Saints fans believe.
