I have a better idea - 4 16 team conferences - Southeast, Central/South Central, Upper Midwest and Northeast.
Win your conference, get seeded - play in a (currently BCS) bowl to qualify for the +1.
This isn't all that complicated.

Agree on 4 team playoff. Do not agree on selection committee - that would leave it even more open to manipulation if you put all of the power in so few hands. In essence what we have today the voters are the selection committee. I agree we need to check their references a little more though.

+1, they have an agenda IMO.
they twisted (ignored)the stats. Ok ST had better stats than Bama..whether OK St could beat Bama or not is a different subject.
It also helped that BAMA was no 1...easier to stay there than for Ok St to move up
IMO, Ok St did what they had to do by beating OK as they did.
