I'm not gonna read everyone's else's opinion but the answer the the original question is no. A fair chance means split reps from day one. Mett never even got a fair chance at #2. So no matter how well he did with walk ons and 3rd string players, he never got to move up. His beautiful pass in the spring game and Miles' reaction to it summed it up for me. He was forced to sit, watch and learn to prepare for next season. I'm not saying it was the wrong move but he never was given a chance. No new QB is gonna come in and take reps away from 2 seniors with 3-4 years experience, even with a new system.
