Who replaced him and why wasn't that player starting last year?

my post answers this.

2 of LSUs most steady players on D last year, Taylor and Sam Montgomery, did not play vs. Ark.

Okay, now that we're all agreed that having inferior players missing can lead to shitty defense...can you guys please pass along the following memo:

LSU is not the only team that gets injuries that result in subpar performances from time to time. You guys were hit with the injury bug last year, making it more difficult for you to beat Arkansas.

We suffered injuries this year that made it difficult for us to stop ANYBODY for weeks. So when you post stats about how many points/yards Arkansas' defense gives up, remember that includes games versus Bama, A&M, Auburn, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, and South Carolina.

We've played exactly 4 games this year with our best players healthy (2 cupcakes at the beginning of the year, then Tennessee and MSU). The 2 cupcakes aren't worth talking about since, by definition, they aren't supposed to be able to move the ball or score (they didn't). And Tennessee and MSU are teams that struggle offensively.

My whole point in this is that no one knows what Arkansas has defensively. Not you, not arkansas fans, not les miles, not bobby petrino. You can make assumptions based on our season stats, but that doesn't tell you the true story, as we were missing a combination of the following: starting DE (2), starting DL, starting CB (2).

Once again, I'm not saying Arkansas has a great defense. Even when completely healthy I know we'll probably never have the defense of LSU/Bama (few will). But we're not nearly as porous as those stats would indicate.

Food for thought.
