Guys, relax. You're looking at this the wrong way.
The computers aren't saying "Alabama" is best, they're saying that "Alabama has so-far accomplished the most" (according to the computer calculations). It is only as the season nears its conclusion do computer rankings gradually become "Team 1 is best".
Kentucky, Mississippi State, and FCS foe Northwestern State are bringing LSU's strength of schedule down.
Relax, everything will work itself out as the season progresses.
If you want to get even madder, look at where my mathematical algorithm has LSU... and mine has been more accurate at predicting winners than even Sagarin. But, no, LSU is definitely better than at least two teams above it right now... it's just that, unlike most, my system starts every team off exactly equal (zero bias) and it can take a while to get the proper level of mathematical separation. collegepigskin.com
Or if you want to really lose it, Colley's rankings are used in the BCS calculations and his zero-bias rankings have LSU down even further: Colley

So how many of the 41 teams your system has ahead of Oregon would you be willing to bet $100 on if they were playing each other this week?
