Basis for changing QB's...What makes sense?

JJ was the benfactor of Lee's injury. Once Miles swtiched to JJ, he stuck with JJ no matter what.
Now Lee is the benefactor of JJ's off-the-field issues, so Miles turned to the 5th year Sr, and Lee is now the starting QB.
Independent of the reason, whether the person caused the benching issue or not, this seems to be the precedent for Miles and QB's.
I personally think JJ got a raw deal, but that is how life unfolds. This is not about JJ. This is about the breaks of life and what is good for the team. This is not about Lee, this is about whether he is capable enough to lead us to the promise land, meaning what is best for the team.
If JJ is innocent, which may very well turn out to be the case, it will be a personal travesty for him, but that poor fortune does not trump what is best for the team and for hundreds of thousands of Tiger fans who see a special team on a roll with a more-than-adequate QB, and we should not mess with that no matter what.
If he is cleared, he should play in a mix-it-up, off-the-bench roll and as an emergency QB in case Lee gets hurt along the way.
Doesn't that make sense?
If not, offer a well-thought opinion of why something else makes more sense. Otherwise, lets watch this special momentum and season roll on!
Geaux JJ, Geaux Lee and most importantly, GEAUX TIGERS!

Les Miles' obligation is to what's best for the team, not for Lee or JJ. Right now, the team is doing well and responding well to Lee. If JL was screwing up, then considering a change would be justified.
Since he is not, there is no justification for pulling him.

I see your point. But if you're fundamentally saying that Lee should start because he "deserves this chance", or because JJ's return would upset hundreds of thousands of spectators with no inside knowledge of the team's workings, then I can't agree with it.
What's best for the team is for the coaches to consider who gives us the best chance to win, and start that guy. If that's Lee, this is a pretty simple dispute to settle. Leave him in. All but a few people would be happy. If it's Jefferson, then I don't think he should be left out simply because rotating him would upset some fans and deprive Lee of his chance. Politics of the situation be damned.
In the end, the best player should be the one leading the offense. The coaches will make that call.

I tend to agree that the "roll with it" factor should play into any decision; Lee is doing well right now. But I can guarantee you that we will happen upon a close game at some point this year. Knowing this, the coach is obligated to weigh the pros and cons of a disruption early on against the cost of not having your best player in a position to succeed once we meet the big dogs in the conference later on this year.
Having seen Lee do well over the last few weeks, I can't say emphatically that JJ is the better option. The fact that he was starting would suggest that the coaches felt that way, however.
I'm glad we can have this discussion civilly for once.

I think the same goes for Shep. Right now, Lee and OBJ seem to have developed some chemistry. I don't think you disrupt that by just inserting Shep because he's eligible again. Give him his chances in games, and if he outperforms OBJ, then he starts.
Playing time has to be earned, not given.

Each day that JJ is suspended is another day he is missing reps a d conditioning. IF he is cleared to play today (figuratively speaking) he is 3rd string at best. No one knows what he's been doing in the past 4 weeks he's been isolated from the team.

Again, I find it curious that you guys are so certain and emphatic with this. He was the starter a few short weeks ago, but now he's "third string at best". Bit of a leap, yes?

There have been a lot of irrelevant factors offered as to what should be considered in determining who should play.
The person who gives LSU the best chance to win should play. Simple.

I think this is obvious and goes without saying. The fact of the matter is, the determination of who is the player that fits that description is what is controversial and NOT so simple to determine.
Personally, I'm in the Lee camp if Jefferson returned today. They've been close in competition for the job for the past couple years and I really like what I've seen from Lee so far this year. Our offense seems to have a good balance at the moment. It never hurts to have depth at quarterback though, especially in the college game, so it would be great to get Jefferson back.
I could definitely see it benefiting the offense to have the versatility of bringing in Jefferson in spots to play the Perrilloux role so to speak. Whether Jefferson would embrace that kind of role though would be the question.

I have said this also, and TOTALLY agree with you. I think Miles is a stand up guy, a real players type coach.... he is loyal and once he commits to a player, team, university, he sticks with it... which says alot now days.. he could give two shits about what anyone(rantards), opinion is... its this very trait that brings out the best in his players and teams..they play for him cause they believe in him and what he is about.. IMO

So you're both in the "Lee should play even if JJ gives us a better chance to win" camp?
Noted. We should honestly do a poll on this.

I just don't understand some of you people..that are suppose to be FANS...our team is playing better than 99.9% of all the other teams in the nation, and all you want to do is BITCH and whine and try to create a controversy..when in fact this discussion shouldn't even be happening...CANT' YOU ENJOY THE GAMES THAT ARE BEING PLAYED?...

From my perspective, the coaches have felt JJ gave the team the best chance to succeed for the past 2+ years. Going into this season, they still felt the same way.
While JJ coming out of spring and through fall looked best according to the coaches, I have to think that they've seen things from Lee through the first 3 games that they are happy with, that they always hoped they'd see from him, and that have made them step back to evaluate the situation more.
At the point that JJ comes back, how rusty will he be? Is it best for the team to pull snaps that Lee needs in practice away to try to get JJ back into the fold? With the D playing like it is, would the coaches prefer more accuracy in the passing game with Lee instead of a more dynamic offense with JJ?
For me, the Kentucky game is the point of no return for JJ. Practice time could be split that week without preparation suffering. I'd be more worried if they were splitting reps too much going into the next stretch with Florida, TN, Auburn, Bama. While I don't subscribe to the "aint broke, don't fix it" model if it keeps your best players off the field, I don't know if JJ that hasn't had reps in over a month is hands down so much better than an improved Lee.

depends on the circumstances of him getting cleared, but I agree that you bring him back 3rd and let him win his way back up the depth chart.

The ideal situation would be this: as long as Lee continues to play well, he starts and gets the vast majority of the snaps. Mett comes in when he can to get some meaningful snaps in advance of next season.
If JJ is re-instated, redshirt him. He and Mett then fight it out in the spring. If Mett wins the job, then we have JJ to back him up.

I would say that most of the posts in this thread read as though they were written by adults having a rational discussion.
Your post...not so much.

What advantage would lsu have in bringing a qb back that has missed 6+ weeks of team practice and was involved in a high profile arrest situation over a qb that has performed well against 3 teams, two ranked in the top 25 and hasn't been involved In off the field issues?
It just seems illogical at best to don something like that. And with miles history, nothing suggests he would.

Nothing in there that I can specifically disagree with. I definitely feel as though there's a drop dead point, and Kentucky seems like as good a game as any. I can say that I'll be fine with things the way they are, or I'll be happy for JJ to return as a player. I trust the coaches' judment.
