If superconferences decided to form, break away from the NCAA (and all the shirty, small schools/teams), why or how could the ncaa stop them?

Who gives them authority?

they couldnt.

the schools who choose to participate in NCAA athletics.
NAIA schools have no affiliation with the NCAA
BCS schools would have no affiliation with the NCAA (in football only)

If you choose to play in the NCAA you play under their authority.

Same thing happens at all levels; i.e. the SEC, your high school district, the league you played in in little league, AAU, the Olympics... The list goes on. You play in their league, you follow their rules.
