Post LSU-Oregon plans: Texas A&M-SMU game?

I'm thinking I'll end up tailgating and watching it at a bar. Only going if LSU beats Oregon the night before. Otherwise just bee lining back to BR

we def might need a place to stay. just me and one friend. might use the game to sober up and then drive if we cant find a reasonable hotel

Obviously I am biased since I am an alum, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. I love College Station on game day. The tailgating is good. Ignore the people that tell you to take off your hats, it is not a tradition and annoys the hell out of many of us as well. Some people do not like Aggieland. If you accept college football for what it is, a tradition rich environment, I think non students and non alum can appreciate the tradition rich school we are. There are a number of good bars and restaurants on Northgate, and like I say the tailgating is good. Some students will be d bags so just ignore them, but plenty of tailgaters will invite you over to eat some good BBQ and have a few beers. Hope that helped

My group tailgates between Reed Arena (basketball arena) and Olsen Field (baseball stadium). Stop on by.

The hat deal is for inside the Memorial Student Center (which isn't open because it's being renovated) or during yells. Just keep your hat on. You'll be fine.

Transplanted Tiger living in Houston, but have made many trips to College Station for various & sundry events. The tailgating is good, not LSU good, but worth a walk-around. Head to Northgate, north of the campus across University Dr. and East of Wellborn (the street Kyle Field is on) for the game if you don't score tickets. A lot of folks go to the Dixie Chicken and it's a damn good college bar; Cold beer, loud, pretty girls. I prefer Dudley's Draw. Usually not as crowded, pool table upstairs, food's a tad better. I mean it's bar food, so don't expect haute cuisine, but I like the food better than The Chicken.

Be open minded about the "traditions". Like LSU fans they are passionate about their school. Some of its a little over the top, but I kinda like it from the outside looking in. Aggies are for the most part pretty OK folks. Just like anywhere, they have their douche bags, but Aggies are closer in temperament to Tiger fans than the Tea Sips from Texas. I'll put it this way, if I were born & raised in Texas , I would have gone to A&M way before considering tu.

I'll have my wife and two kids with me, but I tailgate among a lot of good people. We'll be setting up about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning for SMU (it's a Sunday night game, which is a little different).

If this year is like usual, we'll have breakfast food and bloody mary's in the a.m. We'll start playing washers and playing live music aftwerwards. Then, brisket, ribs, fish frys, jalapeno poppers, etc. and lots of keg beer in the daytime. Everybody's got a dish tv, so you won't miss many sports.

Anyways, I've tailgated in Baton Rouge, and we're not quite on LSU's level. But we aren't too shabby, especially in Spence Park (across from Kyle Field) and around Reed Arena on West Campus.

If you come down, I think you'll enjoy a pretty good preseason game at night.

I'm not a a&m fan but the 12 th man is quite the experience. They do a nice methodic yell thing that I always think is pretty cool. Wouldn't want to do it myself but cool when they do it kind of militaristically.

I just graduated and spent four years in College Station, and I have never heard of good sushi on Northgate. That is disappointing . I am sure it is there, I have just never heard of it. Oh well, all the reason to go back!

I would hope that more LSU fans do this...

SMU will be a fun game just because its game 1 and the tailgates will be a blast as always. If you want a place to hit up come by Spence Park on the south side of the bridge for some pulled pork sandwiches and beer a couple hours before the game.
