HDTV noob questions

Not strictly a gaming question, but I figured this was as good a board as any: Just upgraded to a 46" led 1080p 120hz Samsung from a 37" lcd 720p set that I've had for a few years now. My question is, does it take some time to get used to a good HDTV? I feel like my eyeballs hurt, almost a drunk feeling, when watching it. I've adjusted the settings to warm up the colors, but even watching The Office, I still feel a little "seasick". Just wanted to know if this is normal, or if I need to adjust something.

Does it look like you are watching it through the camera? I hate that

Best way I can describe it is that it feels like I'm drunk and I'm trying to read something. What's weird is that the football game looks great, no problems (same with the xbox games). TV shows are killing me though.

You can turn off the smooth motion effect (120 hz).
It makes things fluid but it gives you the soap opera effect.
You do get used to it though if you stick with it.

Thank you! I adjusted the Auto Motion Plus feature, that helped a ton. On the "smooth" setting it's almost unwatchable, I set it back to "standard". Will still take some getting used to, but it's not giving me a headache.

Not really. 36 months no interest at Best Buy right on on anything $899 or over. So basically if you can afford a $33 a month payment for 3 years, you can go get $1200 tv right now. (actually, I only paid $999 for it, open box item

The refresh rate is something to get used to. Also, the set-up may be the problem. You went up significantly in size and if you have the TV in the same spot, you may need to move seating back a little to adjust. Any fluorescent lights can also cause headaches and such when watching HDTV. So try not to use them. Also in regards to lighting, sometimes you can get a headache if your eyes are straining too much to try and see the wall near the TV, so if there's any lighting on at all, be sure the areas around the TV are lit.
Just try and get through it, it's really the only way to get past it if none of the other suggestions work. I have the same model, and my girlfriend always tries to play video games on it and gets sick after about a half hour. In other news, you picked a great TV. The Samsung LEDs are among the best out right now. Good luck.
