Although the more appropriate time for these sentiments is Memorial Day, I concur with General Patton. To be fair, those who have passed, particularly in battle are Veterans as much, or more, than those of us who yet breathe.

When you stop and honor our valorous dead and toast their memory, rather than mourn, think of the blood of our enemies they have shed. THAT was their gift - not to die for us (which they were willing to do, and did, of course), but to slay our enemies so that we could achieve victory, and ultimately peace and security.
