No shite, Sherlock.
Since the inception of the SECCG, Florida and Bama have clearly been the best teams in the SEC.
And going forward another 20 years, I won't be surprised if Bama and Florida continue to dominate. Because that's what elite teams do.
You homers keep saying "we should be this" or "we could be that" and while I might agree that we could be, we never have been. We've never stayed at that level for more than a year or two.
The reason LSU and Auburn have such a highly competitive game every year is because LSU and Auburn are almost mirror images of each other. Both of want to be better than Bama, just as much as the Red Sox want to be better than the Yankees. We aren't.
Wow, man. You've simple stated the obvious. In fact, there was a whole SI.com article about this recently. But that doesn't mean that there can't be another "elite" team. It's pretty obvious that LSU has a good program, most any outsider would tell you that. You want to call it "elite" or not, that is simply a label.
Somehow, because Florida and Bama have had the most success so far - LSU can't breakthrough (or continue to do so). Is that your point?

120 FBS teams. LSU is top 15 all-time in wins. I'm good with that.

Well, it sounds like your point is that Florida and Bama are elite teams, but LSU is also an elite team.
I might have bought that argument after the 2007 season, when we were riding high and Bama was doing poorly. But now that Bama is back on top, it's hard for me to argue that LSU is on the same level with them. Historically, we never have been or at least not for very long.
I don't believe there is room in the SEC for more than two elite teams at a time. I define elite as being highly competitive over a decade or more. Historically, no one has been more competitive in the SEC than Bama. And since the early 90s, Florida has also been highly competitive MOST years.
Perhaps going forward LSU will displace one of these two schools. But I think it will be extremely difficult for LSU or Auburn for that matter to displace Bama and Florida as the top dawgs. In any given year, yes. But over the long term, no. Most years, Florida and Bama are better. And that's why they are the elite teams.
