This was a pretty amazing first-hand account of the relationship between college football players and agents. I always figured this was a bigger deal than what e've seen recently but man, it's pretty much impossible to to police this kind of stuff.

Good read.

IMO, the only way to stop agents is to punish coaches, agents, etc., not just the players. Until this happens, and a person is held accountable for his actions, it won't stop.

Why the hell would an agent (one who is talking to a college kid) care if the kid gets busted. No harm to him. He just moves on to the next kid.

Nothing newsworthy in my opinion. Agents give players things against the rules and many players willingly accept. Shockingly, players do not tell their coaches.

Instead of Mr. Anonymous it should be Cpt. Obvious.

So basically the idea is its been going on for a while, and since other guys did it, then it was okay?

It is not forbidden to have contact with an agent. It is forbidden to take any gifts from the agent. Basically, you can't gain anything other than information (unless that would lead to some form of monetary benefit) from the agent.

For example, going to dinner with them, as long as you paid your share, would not matter. If you let them pay for your drinks or meal, its illegal.

Why is anyone at all trying to defend the players in this case? They knew the rules because its clearly laid out. Now everyone is after the agents, which while dirtbags, aren't the whole problem. Selfish and naive players are.

Punish players that break the rules severely and it won't happen again. Offer uneven punishment (Dez Bryant) and lax punishment (Bama DT) and you get will continue to see guys play the system.
