I'm not a doctor, but I wouldn't, either. My son still has a steel rod (screws were removed) in his leg from a compound fracture he got while playing baseball (cleat hung in the dirt during a slide). The break was about 5-6 inches above the ankle. Good news was, he recovered completely, walks normally, runs normally. Granted, he didn't have the stresses on his legs that Chad will have when playing professional sports, but here's hoping Chad's outcome will be that good.
