I hadn't watched this movie in a long time and my girl had never seen it, so I rented it last weekend.
Despite the fact it has some incredibly cheesy romantic moments (specifically, the ending), I really liked this movie.
This movie also features the most epic nutcheck in film history in the fight scene between Foley and Mayo. It's one of those moments where every male watching it cringes.
If you were alive in the 80's I'm sure you saw it, thoughts?

I have this movie and like it a lot. Was a bit cheesy at times but not over the top. Liked Louis Gosset Jr's character.
They made a movie recently called Annapolis that seemed like a horrible ripoff of this movie.

Louis Gosset Jr. Made that movie. I rewatch that movie just because of his role. I love the first scene he's in when he's walkin down those steps. He open's up with "I don't believe what I'm seeing!! Where ya been all yo' lives?! A drive-in movie?!" excellent scene.

I didn't see it until about 5 years ago. I was born in 1980, so I'm assuming most people that really rave on about this movie are older than me. However, I really liked it. Yes, time has not treated it all that well, but there are some great qualities about it. Gosset is great. Maaayoonaise!
Some of the writing is weak in parts, but overall, it's a classic.
