Would this chart would sway MVP votes from Manning to Brees?

QB Rating compared to Salary
Since "VALUABLE" is part of the award's name, then shouldn't performance related to value actually mean something? Peyton is on the trendline which means he performed as expected while Brees far exceeded what's expected for his salary range.

I don't agree with this at all. All NFL QBs are expected to produce at a high level. Their salaries take into account way too many other variables. (Age, when they were drafted, contract negotiations, etc...) Eli just got paid a ridiculous amount of money. Does anyone expect him to outperform Drew Brees?? No. Tom Coughlin doesn't expect that, but he wanted to keep Eli so he had to pay him.
eta: not a bad first post though

I was just pointing to the fact that Brees far exceeded what was expected of him while Manning performed as expected.
However, I think QB rating is an overrated stat but, unfortunately, it's the best single stat out there to judge a QB by.

I'm not sure when they say valuable they mean it in that sense. By that measure, Josh Cribbs would be MVP since he basically carried Cleveland around all year and made under $1mil base for the year.
