I think the refs didn't ever really make a call on the field until they decided to punt it to the replay official.
I didn't ever see a call made on the play until much later. they hesitated.
Unless the ref is in perfect position it is a difficult call to make to see the feet get down AND the catch is made cleanly,
So the booth official is nervous and doesn't want to over rule the field guys but the field refs made a default call thinking the booth guy would get it right.
So nobody got it right thinking the other guy would get it right.
Does this sound right? does anyone have a better
idea about what really happened?
Is the SEC going to make a statement?

No one has talked about it on here, but I've read some Bama fans saying the pic didn't count because Julio touched the ball with a foot out of bounds therefore it's a dead ball.

Big Hint! your not getting the call and will never get the call is when the ref is standing on your sideline and makes a ruling for the other team.

the refs missing it on the field is reasonable it was a very fast play and most of us couldn't make that call, but there is no excuse for missing it on the replay.

I think the guy in the recall booth was waiting for redding to call him from the luxury suites. As soon as he got that call it was official. Bama to the SECCG.

unicorns. there was a unicorn on the sideline that distracted the replay official. if the unicorn had not been on our sideline, the refs might have actually looked at the play and made the right call. that's the only reason(except for the florida/bama conspiracy theory) i can come up with for the blown call.

I agree. I never saw anybody make a call on the play.

so as I understand it. the field officials did not have a good view of the play. so they just made a call based on ... I don't know what.
They punt it to the booth offficial who is bound by the rules to only overrule a call on the field if the replay shows irrefutable evidence that the call was wrong.
(I know, I know, it sure looked irrefutable to me)
So the field officials admit they didn't know and the booth official won't overrule when he has by far a better view than the field officials had.
But he still won't overrule. At some point it has to be up to the guy who has the best vantage point, even if it is the booth official.
I'm really disturbed that the SEC won't make an official statement on what happened.
They have made statements after the fact before, why not now.
Smells like they just want this to go away.

The refs had no idea on the play, and that is where the biggest screwup occurred in my mind. If no one is sure about a play like that, you reward the play on the ball. (Weather it is a sideline INT or a sideline reception.) Then you force replay to prove the play didn't happen. That should be the obvious instinct for a ref, and that is the most criminal part about that play considering that it is at least understandable to say the replay was not indisputable.

its funny because the explanation we were given in the stadium is, "the ruling on the field is (mic goes out.) the previous play is under review."
