Ask Auburn how that worked out for them. They fixed their offense from 104th to top 5.

But broke their defense from top 5 to 67th

Well one of the primary traits of Malzahn's offense is tht they run a lot of plays, and fast. So you'll get a lot more possessions per ball game, which leads to both inflated offensive stats and deflated defensive stats. A better metric is yards per play, not total yards.
