LSU wins toss but defers. Defense provides impressive display of improvement from the start with a sack and fumble recovery. JJ quickly takes advantage of a short field and throws his first TD pass of the day to TT (7-0). Defense then provides a three and out. Tigers run a few plays resulting in 2 first downs and then RS makes his debut as a tiger running option with Holliday but gets stuffed for short gain (none the less, crowd goes apeshit). JJ returns and manufactures drive to the Vandy 16 that then stalls as LSU settles for a FG (10-0). Vandy receives kick-off and puts together 60 yard drive (much grumbling from the negatigers) resulting in a FG (10-3). End of quarter.
LSU starts 2nd quarter on their own 48 yard line after a nice KW return from the 1. Offense produces a couple of nice runs to get the Tigers to the Vandy 32 and then Chuck Scott catches a screen pass and breaks it for the TD leaving a couple Vandy players wondering how the train rerouted itself through Tiger Stadium (17-3). Next Vandy drive is stifled by a Nevis sack early and then a delayed blitz on 3rd down by CJ. CJ then has a nice 40 yard punt return negated by a block in the back. Tigers start at their own 16. Couple of nice runs by Scott gives the Tigers some breathing room and again RS enters the game and this time is as advertised with running plays of 12 and 16 yards followed by a TD pass to JoJo Lafell from the 18 yard line (the crowd collectively toast one another and begin to look forward to the next 2 years)(24-3). Vandy runs clock to proceed to half time without further pain.
3rd quarter LSU receives the kick-off and produces another impressive drive under JJ with pass completions of 8, 12, and 23 yards. Shep returns to the game, this time at RB and proceeds to juke Vandy players out of their jocks as he scores his first rushing TD as a Tiger (crowd begins to chant "bring on Tebow")(31-3). The 2 teams then trade off short and ineffective drives as our defense continues to impress while Les starts the apply the offensive brakes. End of 3rd quarter.
4th quarter opens with Vandy on a long drive aided by some softening of the defensive play calling. Vandy is disappointed, however, by an INT by the dreadlocks of doom at the Tiger 5 returned to the Vandy 38. Williams and Murphy gets some carries getting the Tigers inside the Vandy 10 before the drive is stalled by penalties. Tigers settle for a Jasper FG (34-3). Happy fans begin to trickle out of Tiger stadium as the game winds down. 2nd string defense surrenders a late TD to the commodores as time expires in a game that gives bright hope to the rest of the season!

LSU 31
Vanderbilt 13

Vandy puts up a good fight but Tigers prevail at the end with two fourth quarter TD's. Defense plays better only giving up 13 points and 245 yards. Offense struggles with turnovers but get's it together late in the game.
