Thoughts from rewatching the Udub game

I'm watching the game again and CJ missed 2 tackles on the first drive (one that gave up the touchdown) among a few other missed tackles. Also, he should have been called for pass interference early in the 2nd quarter.

The D Line played better than most think
Several times they had Locker in the backfield and he used his speed to escape or he threw the ball away quickly. Yet, they were pushed around on some plays. It seemed that the number of times both occured was about equal. We played 3 down linemen a few times and it didn't work to our advantage at all. Washington took advantage when we dropped a DE into coverage almost every time.

Udub stacked the box in the first half
and we didn't adjust as quickly as we needed. Miles and Co. just kept trying to run Scott up the middle. Sark and Holt probably realized Miles and Crowton didn't want to pass with Jefferson too much (especially with all SEC back Charles Scott), and that is the reason they stacked the box. I really wish we would have adjusted to it instead of playing right into it. Even when they didn't stack the box the LB's would cheat up. When we finally started running options on the last drive, Washington couldn't stop it. When Jefferson threw to the outside they couldn't stop it. I imagine Dickson could've torn up 8-10 yard hooks all game. Hell, crossing patterns and quick slants probably would've torn up the Washington d the entire game.

We played an almost penalty free game
only 3-35 as opposed to Washington's 11-83. Going into the 4th quarter we only had 1 penalty for 5 yards. Then we got a phantom pass interference for 15 yards a few minutes into the 4th. Even Alem's roughing the passer with 50 seconds left in the game is questionable. He literally hit him as soon as the ball left his hand.

Riley, Sheppard, and Cutera all had good games
Which is great to see. Coleman also played very well and made a few key plays.

Jefferson is very poised
I don't need to tell any of you anything else about how welcome this is. He seems to be very mature for his age. He stood tall in the pocket when he had to, he threw the ball away when he had to, he knew where the first down marker was and made sure he got there. I just wish he would slide more often. He was 5 of 7 the last 23 or so minutes of the game.

We overused the no huddle offense.
Especially on third downs. I know it's something that needs to be practiced and can throw the D off if used effectively. But with Jefferson being such a young QB and the stadium as loud as it was, I believe it hurt us more often than it helped us.

Washington didn't punt until
there was less than 4 minutes on the clock in the 1st half.

JuCo transfer Derek Helton
isn't a very good punter from what I've seen. He averaged 32 yards a punt with his long being 38 yards. None were inside the 20. Last year we averaged 40.3 yards a punt and had a long of 59 by Dalfrey. Junior Josh Jasper averaged 43 yards a punt last year. Why isn't he still punting? Helton looks like he doesn't even try that hard.

Handing off to Trindon in the backfield isn't a good idea.
He needs to get the ball in space, either on options, toss sweeps, or screens.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
Terrance Toliver will dance all over your face on his way to the end zone.

Official reviews took way too long

The LSU D played well on our side of the field
With the exception of the first and last drive of the game. I hope Miles made the D run a couple extra laps today for giving up that last touchdown, and I hope he made Chavis run with them.

Drake Nevis is a fly swatter.
He knocked down 2 or 3 passes and was close to knocking down a couple more.

All in all, I think it was a great road test at the very beginning of the season and ultimately will help build the character of the team tremendously. There were a few key missed tackles that if they were made, it would've been a totally different ball game. I believe jet lag played a bigger role than most realize.

Let's hope Chavis can drum up some intensity this week at practice and have them knocking the 'dores on their asses this weekend.
