Buckle up. You're about to get pwn3d.

Ya'll are really setting the standards too low for pwnage.

1994. Who were the "darling" teams?

Bulls - defending champs.
Knicks - arguably best in the East.
Magic - best in the East.

Didn't watch the NBA back then, except when MJ was on. So I can't really speak on it.

USC didn't become a darling until they won the 2003 Orange Bowl.

I thought their BCS title was 2004 orange bowl. 2003 was rose bowl and mythical national title, right? I may be mixed up. Anyway, thats still only one title. Does that warrant them more airtime then the two teams with 2 titles?

The Sox/Yanks rivalry wasn't shoved down our throats until the Sox started contending for a title this decade.

I may consent on that, except that its so overkill I feel like I've been watching sox/yanks stories, games, pregame, postgame, warmups, and personal lives for my entire adult life. ESPN is king at taking a good story, then dissecting and repeating it in so many ways that eventually people resent seeing it on.

ESPN covers winners, no matter who they are.

Utah get much coverage? Stanley Cup winner? Who won MLS last year? Follow the money xiv. Its a little about winning, and a lot about funding.

Leaving this damn hospital. Catch up on the response later!

So that's why you don't know what you're talking about. A lot of sports happened before 1996 fyi.

The 2002 USC team went 10-2 in the regular season and beat Iowa in the 2003 Orange Bowl, cracking the top ten for the first time in a LONG time. That's when ESPN took note. USC has been an elite team ever since, and they get a lot of airtime. Funny how that works out.

They were on the front page of ESPN.com the next day with the headline "National Champions?"
