Saint Tropez recommendations

Looking for any suggestions/recommendations for a night in St. Tropez. We're staying at a friend's BnB in Eyguieres for 10 days and will be exploring all over Provence. We then drive to Nice for another 10 days to explore Cannes, Monaco, etc and I figured we'd stop off for a night in ST.
Has anyone been? Where to stay? We don't need the club scene at night or anything. I think I might like the idea of the clubs during the day at the beach, eating lunch, and people watching. I'm just not sure how to go about any of that and if it's worth it. We'll obviously stroll around the main town, which I understand is further away from the clubs on Pampelonne Beach.

ETA: I should ask for any absolute must-do's in Provence as well.
