Make it impossible to neatly hire a coach who will be in the playoffs for another team. It’s going to be messy. A coach can work his butt off for years to get in position to be hired at one of the blue bloods, but is somehow obligated to stay at the lesser school just because they are in the playoffs. The same school that will fire him in a New York minute if things go south. It’s business. The absolute vitriol coming out of Ole Miss fans tells you how much love and appreciation they have for the coach that actually made them relevant for a little while, and who gave them numerous years.

With NIL and unlimited transfer portal, schools now don't have a collegiate team. They have a pro team, with pro players and pro coaches. It is totally a business now with no holds barred.

The NCAA is to blame for not getting out in front of this at the get go. They can't limit NIL, but they sure can limit transferability and hold it to a maximum of 2 - one if their coach who recruited them leaves, and one for any reason. This will help to slow down the wild west that it is now.

Hate this for Ole Miss - if Lane does come to LSU - but it is totally a business right now and business decisions can be harsh. On the flip side, they are free to fire coaches at any time, so the opposite must be available as well.

They also need to work with the dates for signing dates and portal windows to coincide with the playoffs as OP said.

The state of college football now is totally changed.
