July 16, 1945, 0529 - New Mexico.
The world's first atomic bomb was detonated by the scientists and military personnel of the Manhattan Project. The Gadget, a plutonium implosion device, exploded with the equivalent force of 25 kilotons of TNT. The desert floor in the immediate vicinity of the blast was turned to glass.
Three weeks later, Little Boy would be dropped from the Enola Gay in the skies above Hiroshima.
