Not sure if still the case but when I was in HS, we just paid like a dollar or a ceremonial yearly fee to the college we used as a logo, so they could enforce the trademark elsewhere still without needing to be a Dbag to high school coaches/players
In this case the NFL sees real dollars funneling into Houston and want a piece of the pie. Really silly and I feel like a total loser of a case outside of just legal / financial pressure that the league can put on. No chance that would cause consumer confusion or negatively impact the brand of the “Oilers” which isn’t even the active main brand of the organization.
If anything the Tennessee oilers existing is causing the consumer confusion

Things school specific. Most schools don’t mess with high schools as long as they aren’t selling confusing merchandise. And even then they sometimes just turn a blind eye (especially in their own state).
