I'm going through that now with my best friend and it sucks. Friend just got a prognosis of 6 - 12 months, depending on treatment but has accepted his fate. It's hard to hear someone say "Well, I guess this is my last ...., etc"

I'm just trying to keep it together until I accept what's going on and do all I can to support him because his family has just checked out.

But, in spite of all the emotions involved, I think knowing is much better than not knowing, especially for those left behind.

Yeah not knowing what’s coming is really hard for those left behind. Especially if the deceased was still young enough that people would’ve expected a good bit more time. Unexpected isn’t as hard if the deceased was 90..you just can’t realistically ask for much more. Especially if they were well enough at the end for it to catch you off guard.
