Pretty straightforward if you ask me.

Now consider the context in which the Founding Fathers wrote the Bill of Rights, particularly the Second Amendment. They didn't just get back from a long hunting trip, 15 years prior. They overthrew a tyrannical government in the pursuit of freedom. Many of the signers of the Declaration those who ratified the Constitution fully expected the need for ANOTHER revolution in the coming years, some expected it again in their lifetimes.

The express purpose of the 2A is to have we the people on equal footing with the military, God forbid our federal government fell to tyranny and came to the worst possible solution being the only remaining option.
