He brought that on himself based on what he told police after being arrested.
Interestingly though they didn't charge him with tampering with evidence which they absolutely could, and should, have based on him tossing the knife into the woods after the stabbings.

It looks like he stabbed one of the girls just standing there in the kidneys from the video.
I get the "self defense" angle since the guys started it and seemed like the guy in the yellow got the brunt of it but you cant just start stabbing everyone around you just standing there and claim self defense.
