Maybe (Crazy For You is my favorite Madonna song), but that was written for Vision Quest and they just picked her because they liked her vocals on Borderline (that's how early that was for Madonna), which is my second favorite with those 2 being the only ones I'll seek out or listen to voluntarily.,
Lauper wrote Time After Time with the blonde dude from The Hooters.
There is a marked difference in the talent between even prime Madonna and Lauper. Madonna arguably a slightly better singer, but she demonstrated no other musical talent. Lauper can play several instruments and wrote/cowrote many of her songs.
