However, your statement puzzles me.

Why? LSU only had two seasons of less than 3 losses in the previous fifteen years when Miles took over. Miami was a juggernaut that had won 4 national titles in the previous 17 seasons when Coker took over and was widely known as the premier school for NFL talent in the country.

He also inherited a team that had gone 11-1 the year before and should have been in the national title game and was ranked #2 to end the year.

LSU had only had one really good year where they put it all together, and still didn't even go undefeated, and was coming off of a 3 loss season.

And Coker also wasn't coaching in the SEC, a much tougher conference than either the ACC or Big East.

There simply isn't a comparison. There is no question that Miles has continued to build LSU's program up to higher a level than it was when he arrived.

Why?

Well, I said "why" - you were apparently further from my thinking than I estimated (and my failure, not yours, I'm sorry).

I agree with a portion of your statement - Miles inherited a program that was one season removed from a BCS-CG, but was not a perennially a Top 5 program, while Coker inherited a Miami program that for nearly two decades was expected to win or compete for a national championship, of whatever flavor.

I think that LSU was at (albeit briefly) the level of Miami(FL), maybe not as entrenched. Your post has me re-evaluating that, as Miles' success in having three consecutive top 5 finishes may have skewed my thinking. Miles has contributed as much or more to LSU's legacy as a dominant program as his predecessor, and that wasn't really the case with Coker, a point which you make well (though I feel obligated to continue point out for the rantards that Coker went 60-15 at Miami, won a BCS and three conference championships, never had a losing season and they fired him - that sets an impossibly high bar for anyone who follows).
