There isn’t a lot of talent in the women’s game, and most of it is consolidated in elite programs.

I wouldn’t even say elite programs as much as elite coaches. Look what happened to LSU and how quickly they turned it around when they got Mulkey. I have no doubt that if Staley left for another school tomorrow they would also become a power and we’d fall back to mediocrity.

Miss St had a great program for years and it ended almost as soon as the coach left.

Elite coaches/schools bring in all the elite talent. And there’s not enough talent for small time coaches to make runs with veteran teams because all the top talent stays because wnba pay is shite. It’s a never ending saga.

Most elite female athletes don’t play this sport. Gymnastics. Soccer. Tennis. T&F. And probably add in volleyball. Softball is eh. Truly elite athletes don’t play softball. No one gives a frick about women’s basketball. It’s taken how many years for a player like Clark to come along and draw even a modicum of interest?
