How shady is shady?
As mentioned thinning out canopy or removing trees etc is your best bet if you want grass to be there. Also cutting a higher height also helps.
Otherwise you're better off either handscaping, doing shade tolerant plants. Even the "shade mix" of grass seeds will probably die off every summer due to the heat and you'll need to reseed every year.
