Always wondered how they verify the injuries. I mean having surgery would be obvious but I’m sure you could milk the recovery process.

I've been the medical director for a lower level WTA event before, it is what I would call pretty lax at least at that level - there was not necessarily imaging or other purely objective testing that was a criterion. We had a team with myself (MD), a physio and a chiropractic that specializes in sports medicine. Ultimately the MD was the one responsible for signing off on the injury for the withdrawal.
