Because, they are bullshite.
My stem thesis was a bitch.
Over 100 pages.
Detailed synthesis and characterization of several compounds. Detailed kinetic studies, spectroscopic data tracking reactions.
Discussion of reaction mechanisms.

My committee had it several days.
Then I presented and defended in a private setting, me and my 4 member committee.

I had to take and pass classes.
Teach.
Make real progress in novel research.
And, get my boss to essentially sign off on me.
All in order to graduate.

These lib arts bullshite "graduate" degrees are a fricking joke.
Absolute academic abominations.
