There's absolutely zero political agenda attached to Flint being gay.
And even though his love for Thomas is crucially important to the story, it's barely even mentioned throughout the series. No gratuitous gay love scenes or anything of that nature.

I found nothing heavy handed with Flints outcome and charecter.
It took nothing away from the story depicted IMO.
I could care less, it wasn’t forced at all.

The people pissing and moaning about it….what are you seeing?
It’s barely referenced.
