Probably not going to claim yourself as Texans no matter how long you are there. New Orleanians - same. They'll always be from New Orleans if they grew up in that culture. Hell, I know a girl raised in Texas by New Orleans people and she considers herself NOLA over being Texan.
I see this all the time with immigrants to the US, whether from Nigeria, Mexico, or Pakistan. They retain their culture.
