Playing high school football in the early 70’s coach Conner would stand at the back door of the dressing room everyday before practice, had that paddle with the holes in it, last kid out got it , and he would say boy you don’t want to be last at nothing in life, alway stuck with me ,was only last once

GenX and the paddle was used.

Last time I was paddled was in my Jr year of high school. A friend and I got into a little scuffle. We were called to the principal's office the next day to discuss the situation and determine what mode of discipline we would receive.

We were given two options:

1. 10 hits with the paddle
2. Or go to all day clinic for the rest of the week. If you went to clinic, you still did all of your studies, took your tests, etc.. but you still scored Zero.

I took the paddling and my buddy took the clinic option

At one point both the principal and myself were pleading with him to take the paddling. His grades were borderline and he couldn't afford to fail. He wouldn't do it though and ended up having to repeat a class.

I talked shite to the principal the entire time I got the paddling. I kept telling him stuff like "C'mon man, my geriatric grandma can hit harder than that!"

He quit on #8 and told me: "You little shite, get outta here, obviously our dad has given you the belt a lot."
