As a Republican myself, I'm not exactly thrilled that the Evangelical base gets to dictate Abortion on the Right either. So it works both ways as Republicans refuse to just follow the Mississippi rule of thumb or even "When the Fetus feels pain" and be done with this non-starter red herring issue that the Left goads them into...election after election after election...
after election.
ETA: And just like clock work, I receive a downvote immediately. CASE IN POINT why conservatives/Repubs are fvcked with the boogeyman red-herring of Abortion. Thanks Mr Downvoter(s) for proving my point. Good luck going forward doubling down on Evangelical outdated nonsense especially in the Swing States.

being pro-life is a conservative issue that spans FAR broader than the evangelical base and has been a core issue for decades. this notion that conservatives should abandon a core belief in order to win elections is absolutely crazy to me. what's the point of winning elections if you abandon your beliefs?
we've already been told we had to give up the "one man, one woman" marriage issue and the gays in the military issue - that was a "settled issue" and if we ever wanted to win an election again, we had to soften our position on that. so by and large, conservatives shrugged and decided that fight wasnt worth having and most dont give a frick about it that much anymore. now it's abortion we're being told we need to soften our position on (as if we havent already over the years - we're now having to argue against full term abortions) if we ever want to win another election. we're told over and over we need to soften our position on gun control too if we ever want to win another election.
so if we have to either "soften" or (as is usually the case) completely surrender a core position in order to win elections, what's the point of winning elections?

I'm guessing 4chubbies, tardzana and Powerbottom are your downvoters.
