Not everything needs an explicit backstory.

Who gives a shite about Willy's journey to being an narcissistic shut in? That's not the fricking point of the book/story/movie.

As much as I love serials (and I do), this modern need to know every fricking detail of a character's life (that was meant to be a caricature) is disturbing.

make it up in your head or write some degenerate fanfic about Willy and the Oompa Loompas like semi normal people.
