Could be age and overall hormone swings. This same thing happened to myself when I was 14–15. Started right at the end of my freshman year of high school. Didn’t feel well for a week or two, with abdominal pains and nausea. Pretty much quit eating. The symptoms went away other than my appetite loss, just wasn’t hungry for the the longest time and got full quickly. My parents brought me to doctor, had work ups but never an answer. I started my freshman year at around 185 and started sophomore around 145 with my appetite back.
Obviously, this is a diagnosis of exclusion and if it’s been that drastic of a change, I would leave no stone unturned either. Make sure he’s mentally in a good place, ask him about any symptoms, etc. Just don’t want you to think that it’s definitely something bad.
