quote:I agree. I always shake my head when I pass the public school car line on the way to pick my kid up from private school. The parents have $60K-$80K SUVs picking their kids up from public school. One time I even saw a dad with a brand new F250 pulling a $100K bay boat.
Overall, going the “free” route, if you have the means to pay for private, indicates how selfish you are as a parent. You are purposefully choosing to risk the well being, development, and future of your child to save a few hundred dollars/month.
All I think is how selfish they could be to value depreciating items like a vehicle or boats over their kids education.
In Louisiana you can send your kid to a private school for around $500 a month and they even do payment plans. So instead of paying $1200 for that Tahoe get something for $600-$700 and get your kid a decent education. Who knows it may pay off in the long run in the form of a scholarship which will save you money.
