I did my best coup of all time. Had a employee tell me by email, that he was not going to do his job anymore. Too much stress. HR called me ...."President and VP have called because he copied them too. Their message to me. "Your staff, your decision." I had his email in hand ......last paragraph dictated the result. He finished by saying "If you don't meet my demand. I'll retire." Looked up at HR and said ...."Best damned retirement letter I ever read."

Called a meeting with the staff. Ten minutes later, HR in the room. He was standing there. "I want to announce that Mike has decided to retire. In 30 days"

Oh, well then I completely understand your sentiment. I also am a Gen X that’s been with my company for 26 years. I also think that’s a shitty way to fire someone. But my statement still stands. If one these new breeds that think that they should never have to go the office then they they should be equally ok with being terminated remotely.
