Heard that one 1000's of times too. Besides activist types and three 80yo women, people weren't even willing to put in 8-10 hours a year.
When you all didn't get involved for decades, they had to pay for tasks that normally would have been done by a volunteer.
Locals weren't important anymore, and there were a line of entities willing to buy the politicians and pay to help them get elected.
That was the huge shift away from giving af about the local voters.
