I loved the Barqs Red Cream Soda. Many years ago a friend of my uncle's had a snowball stand in Gentilly. The snowball stand was open at night because the owner would get bored in the evening and he needed something to do. The snowball stand was a big hit. I was probably nine years old when my uncle asked me if I would go with him to get a snowball. I went and the owner was there. The owner asked my uncle if he would let me try a new drink that he was going to sell the following week. My uncle said sure and I was givin the new drink. I tasted it and that drink was in a class all by itself. I drank every drop of that drink. The owner's health started going bad and he was going to close the stand for good. I asked him for the recipe for the drink that I loved. I got the recipe and I made it at home. The drink would foam like a vanilla ice cream soda and tasted like one. Here is the recipe that is over sixty years old. Put ice cubes in a glass. Then you add one fourth cup of evaporated milk. Take a red Barqs red cream soda and pour it over the ice and the milk. Fill it to the top of the glass and enjoy it. I swear that it taste like an ice cream soda but no ice cream is in it. I bet that if you try it, you would not believe how good it is. Only Barqs red cream soda can be used for this. If you use yellow, the taste will be awful.
