I was just about to give up until I came across this app. It's a one time fee of $4.99. Found it in an almost foot of snow.
It makes a loud beep on the earbud.

There are YouTube videos that play really loud high pitched noises for this purpose that helped me find my wife’s in the trash or the laundry several times.
