I'm a long time MRI Tech/parent. One of the first thing I ask my claustrophobic patients is if they have young kids. If they say yes I say my advice is to enjoy the break and take a nap. Probably works on about 90% of my patients to get them through without sedation or anything. One of the biggest problems is most MRI techs are lazy and do not talk to patients on the intercom so the patient thinks you left and went to Taco Bell or something which makes them panic. Ask your MRI tech to talk to you on the intercom during the scan. I also allow one friend or family member to join them in the room as long as they don't have any unsafe implants.
