I agree that possibly their biggest mistake in that part of the world was the way they drew borders. If they had taken a different approach they could have avoided a lot of trouble. Instead they created a lot of hatred and new enemies for themselves.

While they obviously could've done better I always wonder if there was any realistic way they could've done it that wouldn't have led to a bunch of hatred and enemies

That region is extremely complicated culturally/socially and isn't highly regarded for being very reasonable about things. I just think it was gonna be fricked regardless
